Longcraig Scout Centre is located to the east of the Forth Rail Bridge. Built beside Longcraig Pier, it provides an excellent access point to the water.
Long Craig Pier was constructed c.1812 or soon after by civil engineers John Rennie and Robert Stevenson, and is part of a series of improvements made to the ferry crossing between North and South Queensferry. It is the easternmost of four piers on the southern side connected with this project. Similar to the Hawes Pier, also part of this plan and built at the same time by the same architects, it is shaped like a slipway sloping into the sea, allowing it to be usable regardless of the tide. Long Craig Pier lies c.800m east of the edge of town, with the two cottages alongside it being the only inhabited buildings nearby. The pier at Long Craig is c.355m long and c.9.0m wide. It is built of well-formed masonry and appears to be in fairly good condition. As with the Hawes Pier, c.75% of the structure is submerged at high tide. The stonework on the walkway which experiences tidal submersion shows signs of loosening and having been repaired in places. Since the latter part of the 20th century, it has been used by the Scouts who maintain a centre there for water activities such as sailing and power-boating. The pier is otherwise not regularly used.
The building is across 2 floors, with an outer compound. On the ground floor we have changing facilities for Male, Female, Accessible, and Staff. We also have our 'Muster' area, kitchen, workshop and kayak store. Up the stairs we have our balcony, leader room, and training room. Outside in our compound we keep our rafting and sailing gear year round.
